through the process of building a literal coffee table book of coffee tables i will be able to explore an interest in books compiled of photographs, self-reference and sculpture. my image series will be composed of photographs of multiple types of coffee tables in various states of use. i will then attach the images to the top of a coffee table, making a coffee table coffee table book in an attempt to recreate, or simulate the experience of looking at different coffee tables.

  1. So I never did find out if you are setting up the scene or if you are letting it happen then documenting it. The lighting could be a little stronger but the images are very good. -sky

  2. I do like how you manage to keep the angle in the same spot as the other photo. I know that's hard to do. I'm with Sky about the statement. I don't know if you are setting up these photos or they just occur naturally in that set up.

  3. I agree with Sky, I think you should definitely play around with the lighting a little more. Also, will you be photographing this particular coffee table everytime? Keep up the good work! Can't wait to see more!

  4. I am enjoying your idea so far. When it comes to lighting a good example would be your first photo. The lighting in your first photo is far better than the lighting in your second photo.

  5. I agree with them. I think if u set up these things with diffrent angle. It will has the diffrent impression of picture.

  6. It is a lot easier to see what's going on in the first picture, because of lighting, though I'm enjoying seeing all the different setups and how as time passing things start to accumulate or the table gets cleaned. While the lighting is different in this picture,if you are documenting progression of time on this table then I think it works.

  7. I don't care about a different angle. I do agree that the lighting is off. If you are going to do the same table, do one everyday.

  8. I don't know if maybe it's the setting on my computer screen, but I'm liking the lighting in this picture. It gives the table a little bit of mystery. The composition is great, you have a nice flow going on with the objects on the table.

  10. Are you gonna be using the same coffee table for the whole book? It might be cool to use other people tables to switch it up a bit.

  11. The idea would have a strong statement for the viewer if you used more varied settings; light, angles and content. Otherwise, the viewer might lose interest pretty quickly.

  12. We need to see more Alex! If you intend to do the same table--then every day! I would personally be more engaged with different tables, that way the owner of the book could create a new table depending on the theme of the day, occasion or what have you.

Work on solidifying your statement as if you plan to include it in the book. (you do not have to actually place it, but for the grade and practice, shoot for a well written statement.)

  13. I like the angle just fine... but I wish the lighting were a little different in this photo. Again, the concept is nice... but will you be visiting new tables or the same?

  14. I'm still loving your idea! I would work on the lighting a little and making sure that the images are more sharp. I love how you are shooting straight down onto the table! It does have a feel that it is staged a bit, just how the objects are arranged separately. I look forward to seeing more! Keep up with the great work!

  15. Your images are pretty good so far. I think it would be nice if the contents on the table didn't get cut off in the picture so that the whole table is included though. I am wondering like everyone else too if you are planning on using the same table for every picture. Can't wait to see more!

  16. for the shoots i am planning on using different tables. the first photo was staged, the second i only moved the items into the picture plane so they would not be cut off, i also removed some items that i felt would be inappropriate for a classroom blog site.

  17. HAHAHA... well get to table shooting... I highly recommend bringing props to a furniture store and taking pictures there... you might like to tell the managers what's going on... or you can just do it discretely and run real fast... Adam can drive the get away scooter.... Good luck
