through the process of building a literal coffee table book of coffee tables i will be able to explore an interest in books compiled of photographs, self-reference and sculpture. my image series will be composed of photographs of multiple types of coffee tables in various states of use. i will then attach the images to the top of a coffee table, making a coffee table coffee table book in an attempt to recreate, or simulate the experience of looking at different coffee tables.

ReplyDeleteThis is a great start! I like the way you arranged the items on the table. Even though the are asymmetrical, they have an even balance. Are all the pictures going to be on this table or are you going to have more tables at that size?

i hope to find tables with similar dimensions, not necessarily size. the pictures will not be of only this table.
ReplyDeleteI reall like you idea for your book! The color of the coffee table in the picture you have posted is a nice rich color. The overall composition is very pleasing too. Keep up the good work!

Great idea! I like how you're going to actually make it into an actual coffee table! Very creative! Can't wait to see the final result!
ReplyDeletethis is looking good to me! but if i were u, i will put one item in center in order to make people focus on this picture. it just my thought!
ReplyDeleteI really like this idea and I think this photo is a wonderful start. It'll be really interesting to see all the different arrangements and coffee tables over the course of the semester. :)

i agree with juleah about the different tables.
ReplyDeletecoffee tables are so personal.
i like that this is unarranged and an intimate look with gorgeous color and tonality.
I really like the composition of the photograph. The way the objects are placed ensure that our eyes will move through the picture. I can't wait to see what you do next!

from Nick Miller: I just love this idea. The first photo that you have so far is a great. I love the coffee table that you chose for this photo, it has a lot of detail in it which adds a lot to the photo.
ReplyDeleteHey!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE your idea! I'm really looking forward to seeing all of the different coffee tables you capture and the different personalities that they have! Good luck!

Alex,
ReplyDeleteGreat start and I am excited about the odd size of the photos, in order to fit within the constraints of your table top.
This will however pose a challenge to your composition so be careful. I am glad that you chose to crop out the floor.
Also, I am not sure that I mind this, but the lines have a curve to them and I am sure it is due to the lens. If you have more lenses you could test them to see which one works best.
Also, FYI, wood is extremely difficult to color correct. It is always too red in prints. You may have to desaturate the Red in photoshop.
Good luck! This is a fun one!

There just isn't quite enough air under that bottom can.... OCD ME!---val
ReplyDeleteThis will be fun to see what people actually have on their coffee table. Will you be using a natural or staged environment? I can't wait to see the final product!

This is a neat idea that is semi-documentarian that really works out.
ReplyDeletethe physical size of the book is a strong part of the idea.
ReplyDeleteas far as this image goes, i agree that there isn't enough "air" at the bottom of the image. you have good taste tho, itll work out.
I liked the composition of your photograph. I think this is a good idea. The things you find on people’s coffee tables are often indicative of their personalities. It’s interesting. The coloring of the image is very nice.
