through the process of building a literal coffee table book of coffee tables i will be able to explore an interest in books compiled of photographs, self-reference and sculpture. my image series will be composed of photographs of multiple types of coffee tables in various states of use. i will then attach the images to the top of a coffee table, making a coffee table coffee table book in an attempt to recreate, or simulate the experience of looking at different coffee tables.

Photobucket

my book will be approximately 20inches by 30 inches. the above photo will be my front cover, as it is. there will be no back cover, because it will be attached to a coffee table, so i guess the table would be the back cover. the artist statement, or any text will not appear in the book.
to clarify further, i do not add any items to the tables, i use what is found on them, sometimes removing things i feel should not be n the picture or arranging them so items are not cut off the edge.

  1. So it looks like the front cover itself could be a coffee table cover. I really like that you aren't going to have a back cover. I'm not so sure you really need a title for your book. The front cover could be a plain coffee table, like a fresh start before you open it and start changing the scenes. I like where you are going for this and I can't wait to see the end result!

  2. I actually do like the cover with the title on the way you have it. I also agree with the no back because of it being a table as well. Have you put any thoughts to maybe also have some blank pages for the owner to write doodle or whatever in since it is an active piece of art to add to the interaction?

  4. I like your front cover; it definitely works well with the overall theme of your artist book. You might want to add your name to the front cover, but that’s just an idea though. It works well without it.

  5. the size of the book is my favorite part of the project. i think the cover will work, maybe place the letters somewhere else on the table? my eyes instantly gravitate to them so maybe they are fine where they are tho. im not used to seeing "text" placed there i guess.

  7. Great cover! I works well with your idea. I like where the text is! I hate it when things are too centered.

  8. I like it :) I like the cover the most because I couldn't tell if it was just another picture or what. Are there going to be a lot of pictures or just a few?

  9. The cover looks great. I was happy to see your new images -- they look good. One of them is a little blurred and I wish it were sharper. Other than that, keep it up!

  10. I am enjoying the variety your photos are producing. The placemat one is out of focus but that might be purposeful.
I am loving the idea of making the coffee table into a book.

  11. I like it. this cover has simple beauty in it. But i have a mind. if you make text bigger, it will be better.

  12. Are you gonna attach it to your own table? The blue one is awesome, love the color. Your lack of text works, no need for it. Good job.

  13. The cover looks really nice. I think it is going to be interesting how the book will actually be part of the coffee table. Is the desription of your book going to be the artist statement in your book? It may help to add some artistic words into it. The final peice is going to look amazing.

  14. I like the fact that the viewer has to think about the title...(coffee table) book.

Some of the photos are blurry, which conflicts with my conception of a coffee table.

I would like to see more variety, such as formal to artsy.

    Love it!
